Gippsland woman dies after collision with Wombat

A young Gippsland woman has died after her cat hit a wombat, while two other passengers have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. 

The fatal crash occurred at Wattle Park, near Inverloch, on the Inverloch-Korumburra Road shortly before 8pm on Monday.

Police believe the woman was driving a four door hatchback when she hit a wombat, lost control of the car and collided with an oncoming ute.

Occupants of the ute believed to be a man and a woman in their 30s suffered serious injuries following the collision and are now in hospital.

The female driver, aged in her 20’s, died at the scene.
Local authorities are now investigating.

Victoria’s road toll for this year is 130, 19 more fatalities compared to this time last year.
